Private Group Tour of the Old Croton Aqueduct
Winning Bid: $200.00
Item condition: New
Mavis Cain, President of the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct (OCA), will lead a group of 10 people on a 2-hour socially distanced tour of the pristine trail that follows the path of this amazing engineering feat, completed in 1842. The first aqueduct built in the US, the OCA carried water by gravity 41 miles from the Croton River in Westchester County to reservoirs in Manhattan — providing clean drinking water for the growing population.
You and your guests will gather at the Keeper’s House in Dobbs Ferry to learn the history of the plans and construction of the Aqueduct and see a brief presentation of “How the Aqueduct made New York the Empire City.“ Then, Mavis will lead the group south on the trail to Untermeyer Park in Yonkers. Along the way, you will see the plans for the revival of the Quarry Park in Hastings, and the Lipschitz sculpture studio with the story of his time in Hastings. Mavis Cain was featured in the documentary “Secrets of New York,” which aired on PBS in 2013, and highlighted the Old Croton Aqueduct.
Tour to be scheduled at a mutually agreed upon date.
